Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>On the occasion of Music Day, observed annually on 21 June, the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck visited today two local artists namely, Mr Cyril Ramdoo, at his residence in Coromandel, and Mr Anand Nithoo, at his School of Music, Ebanez, situated in Quatre Bornes.
\nThe Director of Culture of the Ministry, Mr Vikram Neeraj Boodhun, was also present. Musical instruments were remitted to the local artists as gifts token on that occasion.
\nIn a statement, the Minister highlighted that Music Day 2022 marks an important date as the Ministry has redoubled efforts to provide a new dynamism to the creative sector which has been affected during the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
\nHe recalled that a workshop will soon be organised with the community of artists to develop a synergy between the Ministry and the artists to ensure the promotion of the sector.<\/p>\n

To give a new impetus to this sector, he said, the Ministry has finalised the Status of Artist Bill which will be sent to the State Law Office for the legal aspect so as to be presented in the National Assembly. The Bill will be an important step to professionalise the status of artists, he added.
\nMinister Teeluck also dwelt on efforts of local artists to reinvent themselves through digital and virtual programmes while emphasising on the budgetary measures introduced by Government for the welfare of the community of artists.<\/p>\n

The talents and potentials of local artists to perform abroad were also highlighted by the Minister. Mr Ramdoo, for his part, shared his experiences over the years as a local artist while underlining the essence of music in the daily lives of people.
\nAccording to him, music is a way to reduce stress. He further pointed out that his musical career has enabled him to network with many people and has been beneficial culturally.
\nAs for Mr Nithoo, he spoke of the importance of music for the development of an individual. For him, music provides the means to empower youngsters and keep them away from social scourges.
\nHe called upon parents to encourage their children to explore the musical world. His School of Music, Ebanez, has been set up since 15 years and is engaged in providing guitar, piano and violin courses. Some 100 students from six to 20 years old attend those courses.<\/p>\n
