{"id":17882,"date":"2022-07-10T07:25:24","date_gmt":"2022-07-10T07:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mauritius\/all-news\/new-signage-along-two-trails-of-the-black-river-gorges-national-park-unveiled"},"modified":"2022-07-10T08:27:40","modified_gmt":"2022-07-10T08:27:40","slug":"new-signage-along-two-trails-of-the-black-river-gorges-national-park-unveiled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mauritius\/all-news\/new-signage-along-two-trails-of-the-black-river-gorges-national-park-unveiled","title":{"rendered":"New signage along two trails of the Black River Gorges National Park unveiled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The unveiling ceremony of new signage placed at junctions and strategic points along two trails of the Black River Gorges National Park (BRGNP), was held, on Saturday 25 June 2022, at the Black River Gorges National Park, in Black River.<br \/>\nThe placement of these new markers is a joint initiative of the National Parks and Conservation Service (NPCS) operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security; the Mauritius Commercial Bank and; the Rando Trail and Nature (RTN) Association, an association that promotes outdoor activities.<\/p>\n<p>The signage is expected to help and guide visitors and trekkers within the park so as to make their experience along the Macchab\u00e9e Trail more pleasant.<br \/>\nThese markers will be extended to the remaining tracks in the BRGNP as well as on the tracks of all other National Parks. The new markers are self-guided, attractive, equipped with QR code and indicate the distance of the trail and walking time. Moreover, the markers are reflective in the dark which may help a lost visitor to find his way at night.<\/p>\n<p>More tracks and trails, especially with the nomination of the Black River Gorges Bel Ombre Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will be inaugurated with modernised trail information to provide leisure and a safe and guided path to both local and foreign visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The Black River Gorges National Park There are two terrestrial National Parks namely Black River Gorges National Park (BRGNP) and Bras d\u2019Eau National Park which fall under the responsibility of the NPCS.<\/p>\n<p>The BRGNP is found in the South West of the island and covers an area of 6,574 hectares of forests including the highest point at Piton de la Petite Rivi\u00e8re Noire.<\/p>\n<p>The Park is managed mainly for: the conservation of endemic flora and fauna; dissemination of, and creation of public awareness and education; and the provision of leisure to both local and foreign visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The park harbours plants, birds and geckos which are native to Mauritius and part of the BRGNP, namely Macchab\u00e9e and Bel Ombre, have been designated as a Biosphere Reserve, by the UNESCO.<\/p>\n<p>The BRGNP reveals all the splendour of the wildlife and scenery found in Mauritius and provides a breath-taking panoramic view of the gorges and the waterfalls and comprises 13 hiking trails which lead to all parts of the Park.<\/p>\n<p>One of the activities within the BRGNP is hiking which is organised in collaboration with private organisations such as the RTN, the Standard Bank Royal Raid and Ze Dodo Trail Ltd, where both local and international members participate in running races.<br \/>\nOther activities also carried out in collaboration with these organisations are: conservation of native plants and animals; and, sensitisation and awareness programmes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mauritius\">Mauritius<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mauritius.
