Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The British High Commissioner to Mauritius, Ms Charlotte Pierre, organised a reception, yesterday, at Westminster House in Flor\u00e9al, for Mauritian athletes ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
\nThe Games are to be held from 28 July to 8 August 2022 in Birmingham. The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint, and other personalities were also present on this occasion.<\/p>\n

In her address, High Commissioner Pierre highlighted that throughout history, sport had shown that it, not only had the potential to bring nations together, inspire the youth and change people\u2019s lives, but could also support economies significantly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs such\u201d, she indicated, \u201cit is crucial that we continue to invest in sports, and on our athletes, in particular\u201d. Ms Pierre seized the opportunity to applaud the hard work of the athletes.<\/p>\n

She also commended Minister Toussaint, the Olympic Committee, coaches as well as the athletes\u2019 families for their unflinching and continuous support. The High Commissioner, during the reception, met more than 20 Mauritian athletes and wish them the best as they prepare to fly to the United Kingdom in a few days.<\/p>\n

About the Games The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will take place from 28 July to 8 August 2022, featuring thousands of world-class athletes and a global broadcast audience of over a billion people.<\/p>\n

Backed by \u00a3 778 million of public funding, Birmingham 2022 will offer 11 days of world-class sport while promoting inclusion, education, sustainability, health and innovation. The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will be the first ever carbon neutral Games.<\/p>\n
