Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Anil Kumar Dip, called on the population to demonstrate a greater sense of responsibility, solidarity and confidence in the Mauritius Police Force (MPF) who is working diligently to maintain law and order as well as ensure the safety of citizens.
\nHe was speaking today at the Line Barracks in Port-Louis during a press conference. The CP dwelt on the role and functions of the MPF adding that it operates in an independent manner and helps preserve law and order in the country in accordance to the Police Act 1974.<\/p>\n

He indicated that the post of the CP is in line with the Constitution of Mauritius Section 71 and that the latter contributes in policy and security matters with respect to the maintenance of public order.<\/p>\n

The police force, CP Dip underscored, is a key institution in preventing and combating crime, maintaining the rule of law and upholding constitutional and human rights. This is evident with the record drug seizures over the years and prompt arrests of offenders, he said.<\/p>\n

In addition, he lauded police officers for their hard work, dedication, loyalty and commitment to protecting and serving the public especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and in times of peril.<\/p>\n

The CP also condemned the irresponsibility and misdemeanor on part of some police officers who have brought disrepute to the MPF. These cases, he reassured, are promptly investigated and all enquiries are being carried out within legal parameters and in transparency to ensure that justice is served.<\/p>\n

On this note, he appealed to the public not to give in to instigating talks by some citizens who are tarnishing the image and reputation of the MPF. \u201cPolice officers are recruited, and are duty-bound to serve and protect our citizens\u201d, he indicated adding that the population should cooperate and work in peace with them for a safe and secure society.<\/p>\n
