Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A reception to mark the 70th National Day of the Republic of Egypt was held, this afternoon, at the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Ebene. The national day of Egypt is celebrated on 23 July which coincides with the annual celebration of the Egyptian revolution of 1952 when the modern Republic of Egypt was declared, ending the period of the Kingdom of Egypt.
\nThe President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun; the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth; the Vice-President, Mr Eddy Boissezon; the Acting Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun; the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr Alya\u2019a Samir Borhan, and other eminent personalities were present.<\/p>\n

In her address, Dr Borhan recalled that the diplomatic ties between Mauritius and Egypt were established since 1970 while highlighting that Egypt will continue to collaborate with Mauritius to promote development in the country at the social, economic and cultural front.<\/p>\n

She underlined that the world’s resilience was tested following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, she pointed out that the pandemic has served as a lesson to humanity to come out with a more enduring sense of purpose and the necessity to be more focused on real priorities.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador mentioned several projects on which both countries can collaborate so as to further enhance existing bilateral relations. They include trade, education, cultural exchanges in the tourism sector, as well as business opportunities in the textile and ICT sectors.<\/p>\n

As regards the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to be hosted by Egypt this year, Dr Borhan reiterated Egypt\u2019s determination to play a leading role in global efforts to combat climate change.
\n\u201cEgypt will stand by Africa to advance a Green Transformative Recovery Agenda that strengthens Africa\u2019s ability to address the overlapping challenges post COVID-19\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n
