Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Acting Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Ms Sonja Leighton-Kone, met the Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Mr Sudheer Maudhoo, today at the seat of his Ministry, in Port-Louis.<\/p>\n

Discussions focused on the planetary crisis, renewable energy, climate change, and marine biodiversity, amongst others. In a statement, Ms Leighton-Kone highlighted the need to reinforce collaboration between UNEP and Mauritius so as to better tackle challenges that the latter faces as a Small Island Developing State.<\/p>\n

She commended Mauritius for its engagement towards reducing gas emissions by 40 percent; and achieving 60 percent of green energy in energy mix by 2030.
\nThe UNEP, she reiterated, will continue to support Mauritius in its determination and promote the sustainable management of marine and coastal environments.<\/p>\n
