Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Ms Chileshe Kapwepwe, paid a courtesy call, today, on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun at the State House in R\u00e9duit.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Ms Kapwepwe, said that the meeting with the President was very productive and focused on COMESA 2021-2025 Medium Term Strategic Plan which is geared to support structural transformation of the region and boost overall economic development through trade facilitation and investment promotion.<\/p>\n

She also spoke of building resilience in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic while adding that a committee was set up last November to look into different aspects of health and monitor collaboration with Member countries for more coordinated response.<\/p>\n

As regards the Plan, the COMESA Secretary General underlined that it is supported by four interdependent pillars namely: market integration, physical integration\/connectivity, productive integration, and gender and social integration.<\/p>\n

This strategy, she said, will ensure that COMESA implements the appropriate programmes to help Member States meet the numerous challenges and develop their production capacity in different sectors.<\/p>\n

For Mauritius, COMESA aims to provide support in the production of fish farming and acquaculture, she highlighted. Ms Chileshe Kapwepwe was sworn in as Secretary General in July 2018 during the 20th Summit of the COMESA. She has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors spanning over 30 years in both local and international organisations.<\/p>\n
