Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Citizens benefited from a one-day Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Day aimed at sensitising and creating awareness on sexual and reproductive health services and issues with a special focus on women\u2019s health, on 03 September 2022, at Beau Vallon Mall, Mahebourg, in the context of World Sexual Health Day 2022.
\nThe Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, was present at the Awareness Day which is in line with the vision of his Ministry to promote sexual and reproductive health across all stages of life. The Day provided NGOs, such as the Mauritius Family Planning and Welfare Association, Action Familiale, Mouvement d\u2019Aide a\u0300 la Maternite\u0301 (MAM), Groupe Enfants et Me\u0300res, and Link to Life, a platform to further sensitise and educate the public.
\nSeveral activities were conducted such as Non-Communicable Diseases screening (blood pressure, blood sugar, Body Mass Index), PAP\u2019s smear, breast examination, Rapid Tests for HIV\/AIDS, counselling on nutrition (healthy eating and physical activity), breastfeeding, family planning, preconception care, antenatal care, mental health, dental health, and blood donation.
\nIn a statement, Dr Jagutpal underlined that his Ministry is sensitising the population so that they can enjoy a sense of well-being and stay in good health. The youth, elderly people, and the general public are being targeted and emphasis will be laid on prevention, he added.
\nSpeaking about birth rate, the Minister of Health and Wellness observed that, over the years, it has decreased in Mauritius. He highlighted the importance of sensitising the public on pre-conception care which, he said, is individualised care for people considering pregnancy. It focuses on reducing morbidity and mortality for the patient and the fetus, increasing the chances of conception when pregnancy is desired,<\/p>\n
