Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The African Youth Support Programme (AYSP) aiming to raise funds to financially support students in Mauritius and Madagascar who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and other crisis, was launched on Wednesday 14 September 2022, at the Co\u0302te d’Or National Sports Complex.<\/p>\n

A tombola ticket was symbolically presented to the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, who was present on the occasion.<\/p>\n

The programme is an initiative of the National Forum for Colleges Mauritius (NAFCO), a platform regrouping around 500 students from seven colleges namely Saint Esprit College; Queen Elizabeth College; Le Bocage International School; John Kennedy College; Mahatma Gandhi Institute; Saint Joseph College; and Loreto College Curepipe.<\/p>\n

In his address, Minister Ganoo stated that the NAFCO unites the Mauritian youth around social work and provides students with an ideal platform to foster a fruitful dialogue and to translate discussions into actions.<\/p>\n

The youths and students of the country, he said, have the full ability and will to drive change, and further bring innovative solutions to national and global needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe young people who are going to engage in this fundraising activity with the sole satisfaction of serving others is a great example of solidarity, citizenship and equal opportunities\u201d, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

He rejoiced that the NAFCO has chosen Madagascar as the first country to launch its activities in a spirit of fraternal solidarity adding that Mauritius and Madagascar share a unique and privileged bilateral relationship.<\/p>\n

The AYSP, he pointed out, will contribute to strengthening the relations between the two countries and reinforce the cooperation especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The programme will enable the most disadvantaged to access knowledge, education and school and provide equal opportunities, he added.<\/p>\n

Minister Ganoo reiterated his support to the NAFCO and other such initiatives aimed at strengthening the capacity of young people to come together in a constructive way to help others to become more resilient.<\/p>\n
