Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>In the context of World Patient Safety Day 2022, the Decentralisation Programme of Medical Specialties, was launched, today at the Mahebourg Hospital, with the aim of providing better and timely specialised healthcare services to patients.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint; the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal; the Member of the Parliament, Mr Rameswar Doolub, and other eminent personalities were present.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, a pamphlet comprising details of the Decentralisation Programme was launched. The pamphlet will be distributed to the inhabitants of the nearby regions. In a statement, Minister Toussaint underlined that the initiative is in line with Government\u2019s vision to improve the quality of lives of citizens.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health and Wellness, he stated, has responded to the appeals of the population through this Programme which will ease the lives of patients and decongest specialised services at Regional Hospitals. He urged the patients to go to the nearby dispensaries or call on the hotline 8924 for more information on the Decentralisation Programme.<\/p>\n

For his part, Minister Jagutpal indicated that henceforth the inhabitants of the surrounding regions namely Vieux Grand Port, Rivie\u0300re des Creoles, Ferney, Plaine Magnien, Union Vale, and St Hubert will be able to benefit from specialised medical services at Mahebourg Hospital.<\/p>\n

The services, he said, include cardiology, orthopedics, gynecology, and surgery while adding that other medical specialties will also be made available.<\/p>\n

He stated that this initiative will relieve patients of long hours of waiting and facilitate access to specialised medical services. Government, he reiterated, is doing all in its capacity to enhance the health care sector and improve the quality of lives of citizens.<\/p>\n

Minister Jagutpal informed that specialised services will be available to patients on appointment and for those requiring regular monitoring of their health. World Patient Safety Day World Patient Safety Day is observed annually on 17 September.<\/p>\n

Its objectives are to increase public awareness and engagement, enhance global understanding, and work towards global solidarity and action by Member States to enhance patient safety and reduce patient harm. The theme chosen for this year is \u2018Medication Without Harm\u2019.<\/p>\n
