Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Twitter is finally giving its users the new feature they have most requested \u2013 an edit button. \u201cIf you see an edited Tweet, it\u2019s because we\u2019re testing the edit button.<\/p>\n

This is happening and you\u2019ll be OK,\u201d the company tweeted. It is currently testing the feature and will roll it out in the coming weeks to subscribers of Twitter Blue, which costs $4.99 (\u00a34.33) per month.<\/p>\n

Tweets will be available to edit a few times in the 30 minutes after posting. Twitter Blue is currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand \u2013 but initial tests will be limited to just one country.<\/p>\n

Edited tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp and link to their \u201cEdit History\u201d to \u201cprotect the integrity of the conversation and create a publicly accessible record of what was said,\u201d the company blogged.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should be able to participate in the conversation in a way that makes sense to you and we\u2019ll keep working on ways that make it feel effortless to do just that.<\/p>\n

\u201d The company\u2019s co-founder and former chief executive had said it would probably never provide an edit button.<\/p>\n

But in April, Elon Musk, then planning to buy the company, posted a Twitter poll, in which 73.6% of the 4.4 million respondents said they wanted one. Some maintain it is unnecessary or contrary to the spirit of the platform, however.<\/p>\n

Twitter has long had a superior edit button called \u201cdelete\u201d which allows you to remove a bad tweet and repost a better one without anyone being confused about what happened.<\/p>\n

Why is Twitter bowing to the pressure of giving us an edit button? It will spoil the whole originality and \u201creceipt\u201d uniqueness of the platform. Other users suggested possible refinements to the function. The 30-minute edit option should only be available until there\u2019s a \u2018like\u2019 or reply to a tweet.<\/p>\n
