Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A delegation led by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy from the Republic of Gambia, Mr Ousman Bah, currently in Mauritius for a study tour from 11 to 16 October 2022, effected a visit, today, at the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA), in Port Louis.<\/p>\n

The Minister was received by the Chairperson of the ICTA, Mr Dick Christophe Ng Sui Wa, and other board members. The Ministerial delegation also paid a courtesy call, yesterday, on the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, at the seat of the Ministry in Ebe\u0300ne.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the Gambian Minister pointed out that he had fruitful meetings with the ICT Minister and the members of the ICTA. \u201cThe ICTA,\u201d he stated, \u201cis a well-structured and well-organised independent regulator which has enabled the reduction of internet costs.<\/p>\n

\u201d \u201cWe are taking back the best practices to share with our officials,\u201d he said. Minister Bah also spoke of further strengthening collaboration with Mauritius and of sharing of expertise between both countries.<\/p>\n

He also expressed appreciation regarding his visit to the Museum of the Post Office, which he said, charted the history of the country in terms of the rich culture and ethnic background.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Chairperson of ICTA indicated that the delegation was impressed by the tariffs paid by internet users in Mauritius, which he said, were 20% less than in Gambia.<\/p>\n

\u201cDiscussions at the meeting,\u201d he emphasised, \u201cfocused on digital economy and consolidating cooperation in the ICT sector.<\/p>\n

Mauritius,\u201d he stated, \u201cis a reference as a leader in ICT in the African region.
\nThe delegation, comprising the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr Ebrima Darba; the Deputy Director, ICT, Mr Lang Loum; the Principal ICT Officer, Mr Sering Modou Bah; and the Senior Planner, Mr Assan L. S. Jammeh, is in Mauritius for a study tour regarding the Mauritian digital ecosystem, infrastructure and development.<\/p>\n

The study tour is in line with the Republic of Gambia\u2019s efforts to accelerate its digital transformation process and to strengthen capacities in the following pillars of digital economy: enhancement of digital government; digital skills development strategies; establishment of partnerships for the development of ICT industries; and fostering innovation through partnership between learning and research institutions of the two countries.<\/p>\n
