Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Two lions rescued from conflict-stricken Ukraine have been given a new home in Simbonga Game Farm Sanctuary in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape. The animals, Simba and Mir, had been in a safehouse in Romania before the Warriors of Wildlife (WoW) environmental organisation relocated them to Simbonga Game Farm, which will now be their permanent home.<\/p>\n

WoW founder Lionel de Lange said the lions would not have survived Ukraine\u2019s ongoing attack and invasion by neighbouring Russia. De Lange founded the non-governmental organisation in 2014 and has dedicated it to finding shelter for abused animals.<\/p>\n

The animals were sedated during their flight, which landed at Johannesburg\u2019s OR Tambo International Airport, before their 15-hour road trip to the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n

They were transported in two vehicles and two trailers. De Lange attributed the success of this trip to donors. \u201cThe Kelston Motor Group, which has always shown an interest in our work, provided two Mahindras and trailers to transport the animals,\u201d said De Lange.<\/p>\n

De Lange said: Other animals at the game farm include monkeys, birds, a rescued tiger, a free-roaming giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, nyala, kudu, impala, waterbuck, and blesbok.<\/p>\n
