Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Union of Private Secondary Education Employees (UPSEE) organised a ceremony on Friday 11 November 2022 at the Indira Gandhi Indian Culture Centre, Phoenix to mark World Teacher\u2019s Day, observed annually on 05 October.<\/p>\n

The theme for this year is \u201cThe transformation of education begins with teachers\u201d. The Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, the President of the UPSEE, Mr Arvind Bhojun, and other personalities were present.<\/p>\n

In her address, Vice-Prime Minister Dookun-Luchoomun stated that teachers are and will remain the very engines of the education system. She lauded teachers for the tremendous work they have been doing to keep the machinery of education going despite all the odds.<\/p>\n

She also dwelt on the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 adding that the pandemic compelled the Ministry to rethink the traditional ways of doing things.<\/p>\n

Another positive thing that emerged is the use of technology which according to her will no doubt digitalise the educational system and open new avenues in the educational world.<\/p>\n

Mrs Dookun-Luchoomun emphasised on the need to do capacity building programmes so that teachers become familiar with the pedagogy that accompanies digital transformation.<\/p>\n

In this new context of learning, teachers have a key role to play in striking a fine balance and help build socio-emotional resilience in learners so that they can face any trials in their educational pathways, she said.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Prime Minister urged teachers to team up with their colleagues to create a supportive and successful learning environment within the school. In this endeavour, she indicated that the Ministry has already started the process for the setting up of the Academy for education professionals.<\/p>\n

For his part, Mr Bhojun expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology for providing its continuous support on different issues in the education sector and highlighted that the UPSEE will continue to work in the interest of learners.<\/p>\n
