Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Mauritius will host the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting 2022 (CLMM) under the theme \u2018Strengthening international cooperation through the rule of law and the protection of human rights\u2019 from 22 to 25 November 2022 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Balaclava, announced the Attorney General and Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin, at a press conference, this afternoon, in Port-Louis.<\/p>\n

The Attorney General indicated that the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland, will be arriving in Mauritius on 22 November 2022. As at now, around 95 delegates from 33 Commonwealth countries have already registered for the four-day meeting, he indicated.<\/p>\n

Thirty-three Ministers and Attorneys General have confirmed their participation and some 80 local and international journalists will be attending the event, he added.<\/p>\n

The primary objective of CLMM, he underlined, is to advance Commonwealth consensus and cooperation and enable Law Ministers to set clear directions on a range of issues of mutual interest to Member countries.<\/p>\n

Discussions will focus on several themes including access to justice, courts of future and digitalisation, law and climate change, and data protection, he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Gobin further recalled that the last Commonwealth Law Minister\u2019s Meeting was held in 2019 in Sri Lanka. The Commonwealth countries, he emphasised, is gaining importance over the years adding that out of 42 Small Island States, 32 are Commonwealth countries.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted that during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022, held in Kigali, Rwanda, in June this year, Gabon and Togo joined the Commonwealth to reaffirm their common values and agreed on actions and policies to improve the lives of all their citizens.<\/p>\n

The Attorney General expressed optimism as regards the outcome of the Commonwealth Law Minister\u2019s Meeting and said that he is looking forward to fruitful deliberations during the four days.<\/p>\n
