Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Public Officers\u2019 Welfare Council (POWC) will hold its 28th edition of the \u2018Civil Service Kermesse\u2019 on Sunday 27 November 2022 at the Gymkhana Grounds in Vacoas from 0900 hours to 1700 hours. The entrance will be free.<\/p>\n

In that context, the Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Mr Teeruthraj Hurdoyal, held a press conference, today, in Vacoas, in the presence of the Secretary for Public Service, Mr Bojrazsingh Boyramboli; the Chairman of the Board of the POWC, \u200bMr J. Mulloo, and other personalities.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Civil Service Kermesse\u2019 is an annual event whose main objective is to provide a platform to staff welfare associations of Ministries and Public departments to raise funds for the organisation of welfare activities for the benefit of their members and to promote their respective services.<\/p>\n

It is also an opportunity for public officers and their family as well as the general public to meet and interact in a relaxed and friendly environment.<\/p>\n

During the press conference, Minister Hurdoyal expressed satisfaction that the \u2018Civil Service Kermesse\u2019 would be organised this year, following its cancellation in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. According to Mr Hurdoyal, some 100,000 people are expected at the kermess where the Guest of Honour would be the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

He commended all stakeholders such as the Mauritius Police Force, the National Infrastructure Division, the Energy Services Division, the Central Water Authority, the Central Electricity Board, and the Municipal Council of Vacoas Phoenix for their efforts in making this event a success.<\/p>\n

The Minister spoke of the provision of adequate parking facilities namely at the Metro Express Park & Ride, Seewa Bappoo State Secondary School, the Pandit Sahadeo Sport Complex, among others, so that the public could show up in large numbers.<\/p>\n

He stated that the Mauritius Police Force would be issuing a communique\u0301 to provide the relevant information for the safety and security of all. Regarding the activities scheduled that day, the Minister stated that almost 75 stall holders would be present and would offer new and value-added activities.<\/p>\n

He invited public officers to attend the event with their family as there would be a Kids\u2019 corner with magic shows for the children and to enjoy the concert and other recreational activities.<\/p>\n

The Public Service Minister also highlighted that his priority is the welfare and the safety of public officers with several initiatives focusing on encouraging civil servants to adopt a healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n

He recalled thus the inauguration of a fitness centre for public officers at the headquarters of the Ministry and the launching of a health promotion club to provide medical check-ups across Ministries and Departments for the good health of employees and to increase productivity.<\/p>\n

Mr Hurdoyal cited as well the Virtual Song Competition, held under the aegis of the Ministry, where some 88 public officers were able to showcase their singing talents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe list of the 15 finalists was released this week,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Mr Hurdoyal urged staff welfare associations of Ministries and Public departments to organise leisure, recreational, sport and cultural activities for the welfare of public officers with a view to promoting a better work-life balance.<\/p>\n

He assured them of his support and of the collaboration of the POWC in reviving the activities, following the COVID-19 pandemic, for the benefit of public officers.<\/p>\n
