Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>India assumes the G20 Presidency as from today, and the Indian Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, tagged the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, in his Tweet \u201cIt is time to get inspired by our spiritual traditions which advocate oneness and work together to solve global challenges\u201d.<\/p>\n

In his reply to the Tweet, Prime Minister Jugnauth congratulated Mr Modi for India\u2019s G20 Presidency and stated that Mauritius is deeply honoured to participate as Guest Country at the invitation of India.<\/p>\n

Mr Jugnauth also wished a successful and fruitful tenure to India. India’s G20 Presidency will work to promote this universal sense of one-ness. Hence, the theme – ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.<\/p>\n

As tweeted by the High Commission of India in Mauritius, India\u2019s Presidency is in line with the ethos of the world is one family and offers a platform for mutual growth. According to Mr Modi, the previous 17 Presidencies of the G20 delivered significant results and the forthcoming Summit will build further upon them.<\/p>\n

Our G20 priorities, he stated, will be shaped in consultation with not just our G20 partners, but also our fellow-travellers in the global South, whose voice often goes unheard.<\/p>\n

The Indian Prime Minister is advocating for working together to shape a new paradigm – of human-centric globalisation and depoliticising the global supply of food, fertilizers and medical products, so that geo-political tensions do not lead to humanitarian crises.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s G20 agenda will be inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented, and decisive, he said, adding that it will also encourage an honest conversation among the most powerful countries – on mitigating risks posed by weapons of mass destruction and enhancing global security.<\/p>\n

The G20 Leaders\u2019 Summit at the level of Heads of State\/Government is scheduled to be held on 09 and 10 September 2023 in New Delhi. About the G20 The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. India holds the Presidency of the G20 from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023. The G20 Summit is held annually, under the leadership of a rotating Presidency.<\/p>\n

The G20 initially focused largely on broad macroeconomic issues, but it has since expanded its agenda to inter-alia include trade, climate change, sustainable development, health, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change, and anti-corruption.<\/p>\n

The G20 comprises 19 countries, namely Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tu\u0308rkiye, United Kingdom and United States and the European Union.<\/p>\n

The G20 members represent around 85% of the global GDP, over 75% of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population. It was founded in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis as a forum for the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss global economic and financial issues.<\/p>\n

It was upgraded to the level of Heads of State\/Government in the wake of the global economic and financial crisis of 2007, and, in 2009, was designated the \u201cpremier forum for international economic cooperation\u201d.<\/p>\n
