Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The region of Grand Baie, Cap Malheurex and Grand Gaube will be relieved from water issues as they will be receiving more than 3,000 m3 of water,\u201d stated the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck.<\/p>\n

He was speaking at the Commissioning of a dug well by the Central Water<\/b> Authority (CWA), on Friday 02 December 2022, at L’Espe\u0301rance Trebuchet, in the presence of the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mr Anjiv Ramdhany, the General Manager of the CWA, Mr Prakash Maunthrooa, and other personalities.<\/p>\n

In his address, Minister Teeluck underlined that the region had been facing severe water issues since many years. The installation of three tanks of 80m3 water capacity will no doubt solve the water problems of the inhabitants of the region.<\/p>\n

He lauded the efforts and hard work of the CWA and concerned authorities to ease the access of water supply in the region. He underlined that the country was facing a dry season, adding that the supply of water was getting critical with less than 50% of water capacity in the reservoirs.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegulations will be put in place during this dry period to limit any wastage of water while washing car and gardening,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Minister also indicated that the CWA was undertaking several water-related projects in the region and across the island to address water supply issues.<\/p>\n

For his part, Parliamentary Private Secretary Ramdhany highlighted that Government had as priority to provide adequate water supply to the population, adding that all the authorities were working collaboratively to that end.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe dug well will ensure water supply to the inhabitants of the region,\u201d he said. He also called on the population to use water judiciously and not to make unnecessary wastage.<\/p>\n

As for the General Manager of CWA, he observed that water scarcity was becoming alarming in the country, which he attributed to very low rainfall since the month of August. He reassured the population that the CWA was working at several sites across the country to ameliorate the current situation and ensure water supply.<\/p>\n
