Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Government\u2019s decision to cater for the welfare of people with disabilities by promoting an equitable, just and inclusive society was highlighted today at the Lady Sushil Ramgoolam Recreation Centre in Pointe aux Piments by the Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo.<\/p>\n

She was speaking at an event organised by her Ministry, through the National Council for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (NCRD), in the context of Christmas celebrations for children with disabilities. Entertainment and leisure activities, a magic show and the distribution of gifts to children were on the agenda.<\/p>\n

<\/a>In her address, Minister Jeewa-Daureeawoo underscored that the gathering provides an opportunity for disabled children to share wonderful moments with their friends following the past two years during which the country was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

She seized this opportunity to extend best wishes to the children for the festive period ahead. The Social Security Minister also dwelt on several measures implemented by the Government to promote the well-being of people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Mrs Jeewa-Daureeawoo lauded the efforts of parents devoting themselves to children with disabilities. She also extended gratitude to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), teachers, social workers and civil society for their support in enhancing the lives of disabled children.<\/p>\n

It is recalled that the NCRD, an advisory body regrouping Disabled People\u2019s Organisations and NGOs, was set up by an Act of Parliament in 1986 and had as its main objective to promote the welfare of persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n
