Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A blood donation exercise aiming to help increase the stock of the Blood Bank was held, this morning, in the compound of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) at Forest Side.<\/p>\n

This joint initiative of the LGSC and the National Blood Transfusion Service, operating under the Ministry of Health and Wellness, targets public officers and the public at large.<\/p>\n

In a statement to the Government Information Service, the Community Health Development Motivator of the National Blood Transfusion Service, Mr Ashish Purmanund, pointed out that the Blood Bank requires around 150 pints of blood daily for dialysis patients and cardiac surgeries, and in cases of serious accidents or emergencies.<\/p>\n

Mr Purmanund urged the population to participate in this noble cause due to the shortage of blood in the Blood Bank. He also dwelt on several initiatives taken by the National Blood Transfusion Service to encourage the public to generously donate blood as well as the youth as they are future blood donors.<\/p>\n

He also called upon individuals willing to organise a blood donation activity to contact the National Blood Transfusion Service for further planning. He said that ongoing sensitisation campaigns at schools and in enterprises are being organised adding that posters and pamphlets are also being distributed so as to raise awareness on blood donation.<\/p>\n

He further indicated that a blood donation exercise will be held at Bagatelle on 28 January and another one will be carried out at Dubreuil on 29 January.<\/p>\n
