Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Mauritius Post Ltd has just granted a 23 % salary increase. How far can your budget support the additional expenses ? With the corporatization, MPL has higher overhead expenses. We need to work out marketing strategies so that the public is well-informed about our services.<\/p>\n

We will fund the rise in costs with revenue obtained through our main activities: offering various services such as collecting payments for companies like Mauritius Telecom and the paying of pensions.<\/p>\n

We also obtain revenue from the sale of stamps and, with the recent rise in postal tariffs, we can raise more funds. The Postal Museum will be revamped to attract more visitors.<\/p>\n

We will also launch new services such as selling treasury bills at our counters. With our Internet Service Provider licence (ISP), we are expecting more revenue in the future.<\/p>\n

Where are your plans to become an ISP and to provide Public Access Points? The MPL has obtained an ISP licence. We are in a joint-venture with the State Informatics Limited (SIL) and a company equally owned by MPL and SIL, Mauripost.<\/p>\n

net, has been set up in that perspective. With regard to the PAP, post offices will be equipped with kiosks providing public Internet access. When do you intend to start the construction of the Postal Tower in the Cybercity? We are having meetings to discuss the details of the Postal Tower.<\/p>\n

The Mauritius Post Office and Coopera-tive Bank is financing the project and we intend to start this year. Right now we are busy with the transfer of the General Post Office to the former MCCB Bank.<\/p>\n

What are the non-traditional services that the MPL will offer apart from the ISP ? In addition to the ones mentioned, we may be planning post shops, outsourcing and financial services, and maybe integrating ATMs in our post offices.<\/p>\n

Are the problems recently caused by the corporatization solved? The problems we had to face are behind us. We have just signed an agreement with the trade unions so that any employee can opt to join MPL or not. But there will be no guarantee that those who choose not to join will automatically be offered a job in another government sector.<\/p>\n
