Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>We learned this week that negotiations are progressing between the PTr, the MMM and the PMSD. Ticket sharing was even mentioned in the newspapers, with a PTr accepting 32 of the 60 tickets, and the MMM and PMSD sharing 28 tickets.<\/p>\n

Navin Ramgoolam reacted in the same afternoon by saying that such an agreement had not been discussed, and that it was undoubtedly a leak whose objective was to scramble the negotiations.<\/p>\n

This hypothesis seemed in any case very implausible since it in no way reflected the locomotive status that Navin Ramgoolam confers on the PTr in this alliance.<\/p>\n

From this point of view, it is difficult to imagine Navin Ramgoolam falling below the bar of 35 tickets which would be a symbolic bar not to be crossed, but he must satisfy his current partners if he wishes to advance the negotiations.<\/p>\n

In fact, it is easy to see that the PTr is in a position of strength in this negotiation, and that it is able to dictate certain things to the MMM and the PMSD.<\/p>\n

Unlike these two parties, the PTr has a solid base throughout the territory, and can very well elect candidates in urban constituencies, while the MMM and the PMSD cannot claim to have the slightest influence in rural constituencies.<\/p>\n

From there, the balance of power is immediately posed. But Navin Ramgoolam must be a conciliator, since this is the image he wishes to broadcast today, especially since his own situation is absolutely unclear.<\/p>\n

Indeed, he made a monumental mistake by deserting constituency 5 after the 2014 elections, which puts him in an extremely delicate situation since he is not elected in another constituency.<\/p>\n

This raises the question of his return to the 5, unless he wishes to explore another constituency. Either way, we’re guessing he’ll want to be surrounded by two running mates from the PTr harem. Navin Ramgoolam has enough political experience to know that a disagreement between running mates could cost him an election.<\/p>\n
