Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The former CEO of Mauritius Telecom and founder of One Moris, Sherry Singh, spoke about the freezing of his assets by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) during a press conference yesterday.<\/p>\n

He talked about the many persecutions he and his wife have been subjected to since he exposed the \u201csniffing\u201d case and asked several relevant questions.<\/p>\n

The “timing” makes one tick. . . Sherry Singh first spoke about the “timing” of freezing his assets. \u201cPersonally, I did not watch but I was told that the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) covered this subject at length two days in a row.<\/p>\n

When I look at the timing, I think it’s a way of making people forget the Franklin episode, but there’s also the bribe affair where a minister leased land for rave parties in Grand-Bassin.<\/p>\n

. Now I hear that before the lease was given, there was a Black Label Party there with two ministers present. It’s incredible. ” The former CEO of Mauritius Telecom (MT) highlighted the extraordinary speed of One Moris. \u201cMaybe that scares them.<\/p>\n

\u201d Then, he says, there are two ways to attack a person, one is \u201call so pos\u201d so that they cannot advance financially.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe that is the intention behind it. Every time we think this government has reached its lowest level, it delves a little deeper, to show you that there is no limit to its baseness. According to Sherry Singh, this government systematically tries to paralyze its political adversaries, whether in the case of Navin Ramgoolam, Xavier-Luc Duval, his son Adrien Duval, Roshi Bhadain and even Linion Pep Morisien.

Since he denounced the case of “sniffing”, Sherry Singh and his wife have received 20 letters in nine months for assessments and others from the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had assessments on me, on my wife, on our house and on all its present and past companies. In almost all cases, the assessments are already completed, including on me, my wife and our house.<\/p>\n

\u201d But that’s not all.<\/p>\n

When his wife was due to travel in August last year for medical tests, he was informed that there was an informal objection to departure against him and his wife.<\/p>\n

Through his lawyers, he then requested that this be checked with the Commissioner of Police (CP). Since last August, his lawyers have twice written to CP for clarification on their possible trips.<\/p>\n

“But no response.<\/p>\n

” In September, his wife decides to renew her passport which was \u201ca little damaged\u201d.<\/p>\n

But six months later, in March, the passport office informed her that they could not return her passport to her because they had received \u201cinstructions that there might be a police box\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201d Then, for months and months, every day, twice a day, the police have been making rounds near his home at odd hours.<\/p>\n

\u201d And the \u201cfreezing order\u201d?<\/p>\n

The first time Sherry Singh heard of a possible \u201cfreezing order\u201d was two weeks ago, on March 10, when newspapers reported the list of 23 people the FIU has been investigating since last November.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was November 8, four days after the arrest of Bruneau Laurette. In the list that was leaked to the press, there is also the name of my four-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n

Two weeks later, it was through the MBC that we learned of this decision. When the FIU makes its request, it is ex parte. But the MBC has already reported a day before.<\/p>\n

Sherry Singh also indicated that One Moris continues his fight, and that he will very soon go to a legal counter-offensive with the help of his lawyers on the freezing of his assets.<\/p>\n

He adds that he does not yet know what arguments were used by the FIU to request this freeze. Deer, Minister and Franklin Bruneau Laurette, who was alongside Sherry Singh, said he is not surprised by what is currently happening with the FIU.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the other hand, what surprises me is that there was a minister who was in a field where there was a rave party, where Rs 4 million were put on the table, where a deer was no longer given as a gift and where the Minister spent the night on the premises in good company.<\/p>\n
