Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) has scheduled to hear the Mauritius’ maritime boundary dispute case against Maldives on April 28.<\/p>\n

The dispute concerns a territorial boundary issue that Mauritius has filed with the tribunal. The hearings for this case were concluded last year, and ITLOS has announced that the tribunal’s decision will be broadcasted live during the session.<\/p>\n

Maldives has changed its long-standing stance on the southern Chagos Islands and decided to vote in favor of Mauritius at the United Nations (UN). Previously, in the dispute between the UK and Mauritius over the the Chagos Islands, Maldives had sided with the UK.<\/p>\n

Last year, The Maldives changing its stand in favor of Mauritius drew public criticism for its decision to cede the disputed border area to Mauritius. However, the state has maintained that it will not lose any part of the Maldivian ocean territory.<\/p>\n

The UK and Mauritius have always been at odds over the ownership of the Chagos Islands, which was leased by Britain to the United States, which now operates a military base there.<\/p>\n
