Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Apple Music has announced a new campaign titled Origins to celebrate Africa Month. According to their website, the campaign will explore and celebrate the roots of modern African Music each week of May by focusing on different genres from the continent.<\/p>\n

Four leading musicians from the West, East, Central, North and Southern Africa will each curate exclusive guest playlists that highlight the roots of the respective genres from their region over the month of May. According to Apple Music, artists selected to curate the playlists are Seun Kuti, Nduduzo Makhathini, Alikiba, Fally Ipupa and Bilal Sghir.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom amapiano to Afrobeats and bongo flava to alte\u0301, Apple Music will be hitting the rewind button by celebrating the music and artists from yesteryear who played a critical role in shaping the sounds of modern African music,\u201d Apple Music said.<\/p>\n

Apple stated that origins will be complemented by an overarching playlist featuring the biggest and best African songs the world has come to know and love.<\/p>\n

It will also feature two exclusive home sessions from Nigeria\u2019s Young Jonn and South Africa\u2019s Bongeziwe Mabandla. Young Jonn will perform Lagbaja\u2019s \u2018Never Far Away\u2019, Beautiful Nubia\u2019s \u2018What a Feeling\u2019 and his hit single \u2018Xtra Cool\u2019.<\/p>\n

Bongeziwe will do Brenda Fassie\u2019s \u2018Too Late For Mama\u2019, Shwi no Mtekhala\u2019s \u2018Ngafa\u2019 and his track \u2018Ssoze\u2019. Meanwhile, Tanzanian artist Alikiba said he was looking forward to the assignment because bongo flava had played a huge role in the development of African music and in presenting African culture to the world.<\/p>\n

Seun Kuti, who is the son of Nigerian legend Fela Kuti, says Afrobeats has played a great role in the success of African music generally while showing the cultural and political consciousness of African people.<\/p>\n

For South African artist Nduduzo Makhathini, jazz symbolises a refusal to disconnect from African origin, terming it \u201ca product of black memory and solidarities over the Atlantic [and] a way of being free, an opportunity to co-create one\u2019s reality.
\nAlgerian singer Bilal Sghir describes rai\u0308 music as a vehicle for conveying social reality without taboos or censorship, and a language for the young and young at heart.<\/p>\n
