Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The \u2018Appui a\u0300 la professionnalisation des pratiques enseignantes et au de\u0301veloppement de ressources\u2019 (APPRENDRE) to support the professional development of educators and promote best teaching practices, was launched, yesterday, in presence of the Vice-Prime Minister (VPM), Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, at the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development, in Phoenix.<\/p>\n

The programme is financed by the Agence Franc\u0327aise de De\u0301veloppement (AFD) and implemented by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). It targets 26 sub-Saharan African and French-speaking countries including Mauritius.<\/p>\n

In her address, Vice-Prime Minister Dookun stated that it is a pride for Mauritius to be included among the targeted countries and expressed her thanks to AFD and AUF for this laudable initiative.<\/p>\n

She indicated that the APPRENDRE programme is in line with Government\u2019s determination to put in place concrete actions for a stronger education system based on inclusion and quality.<\/p>\n

The programme, she underlined, will provide a common platform for sharing of best teaching practices and enhance knowledge and research on pedagogical practices related to student learning.<\/p>\n

It will also help the Ministry to be better prepared for the professionalisation of teaching practices, development of resources and capacity building for educators, she added.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Prime Minister pointed out that training and capacity building is key to improving the education system in Mauritius while adding that educators have an important part in enhancing the competencies of students.<\/p>\n

To this end, she indicated that an academy has been set up to promote the professional development of educators and heads of schools to respond to the needs of students.<\/p>\n

Moreover, she spoke on the use of technological tools to bring transformation in classes. The youth, she observed, is well equipped for gaining knowledge through the use of technology and it is important for the Ministry to make it more accessible for them.<\/p>\n

For her part, the Director of Projects at the AUF, Mrs Sabine Lopez, highlighted that Maurice is a key partner of the AFD and should be lauded for its efforts to encourage the development of its education system.<\/p>\n

The APPRENDRE program, she said, promotes the mobilisation of expertise to meet the support needs of beneficiary countries. Thus, she indicated that an action plan has been tailored and designed to respond to the needs of the education system in the country. The programme, she added, will span from May 2023 to June 2024 and will accompany Mauritius in the implementation of projects and activities.<\/p>\n
