Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Safety and Health Week kicked off, this morning, in Port Louis at the seat of the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms in the context of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work to be observed on 28 April 2023.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Mr Teeruthraj Hurdoyal, the Secretary for Public Service Mr Koosiram Conhye and other personalities were present at the opening of the event.<\/p>\n

A series of activities is being organised from 21 to 27 April 2023 by several public bodies to raise awareness on safety and health at work for welfare of employees and to minimise risks of accidents.<\/p>\n

Posters and banners will also be distributed to key bodies to raise awareness on the importance of Safety and Health Week. The Safety and Health Week will culminate in the organisation of a workshop on 28 April 2023 focusing on occupational safety.<\/p>\n

It will help Officers of the Safety and Health Cadre to continuously improve the working environment for the well-being of the employees as a fundamental right. The theme retained is \u201cA safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Hurdoyal dwelt on the importance of ensuring safety and well-being of Public Officers so as to contribute to increasing productivity and quality of work.<\/p>\n

He also spoke of stimulating dialogue among Public Officers to promote decent work through a co-ordinated approach to achieve a safer and healthier working environment.<\/p>\n

The Minister also emphasised on the need for Officers of the public sector to follow safety procedures and protocols as regards the promotion of a conducive workplace. To this end, he encouraged Public Officers to take their responsibilities seriously and come together to creating a safe and healthy environment.<\/p>\n

As for the Secretary for Public Service, he reiterated the commitment to prioritise health and safety of Public Officers at the work place while emphasising on creating a synergy between Officers of the Occupational and Health Unit of the Ministry with that of the Ministry of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training.<\/p>\n
