Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>It is of utmost importance that we make cybersecurity a topmost national priority and a strategic imperative to ensure security of digital transformation projects.<\/p>\n

Government is working together with regulatory bodies to develop legislation and policies that will enforce stringent cybersecurity frameworks for organisations.<\/p>\n

The above statement was made by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, at the opening of a workshop organised by the State Informatics Limited (SIL), on the theme Leveraging on a strong Cybersecurity Framework for Risk Reduction and Compliance, this morning, in Port-Louis.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the SIL, Mr Abhishake Kassee Jugoo, and the Chief Executive Officer of the SIL, Mr Kemraz Mohee, were also present. Minister Balgobin stressed that cybersecurity is one of the most pressing issues in the digital world.<\/p>\n

He observed that the impact of cyber-attacks can be devastating for businesses, public sector organisations, and individuals adding that it is time to reinforce our digital vulnerabilities and implement robust cybersecurity measures.<\/p>\n

He further spoke of the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act 2021 which takes into consideration the fast-changing nature of the ICT ecosystem and provides for a modern piece of legislation in line with Budapest Convention and Malabo Convention.<\/p>\n

The Ministry, he recalled, has launched numerous digital projects with the objective of providing secure access to Government services and facilitating information sharing. These initiatives include MauPass, Mokloud, and Mausign digital certificate which aim at enhancing quality-of-service delivery to the public.<\/p>\n

Minister Balgobin commended the SIL for bringing together experts to work together, share views and come up with solutions to build a resilient and secure digital environment.<\/p>\n

He also announced that the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Summit will be held on 25 and 26 May 2023 for CIOs and tech leaders to share insights on emerging technologies and discuss pertinent issues such as digital transformation and cybersecurity.<\/p>\n

As for Mr Jugoo, he underlined the importance of robust cybersecurity framework to safeguard digital transactions and protect data. Enhancing cyber resilience and consolidating Mauritius\u2019s preparedness to detect cyber threats is key to protecting businesses in the face of future challenges, he stated.<\/p>\n
