{"id":31448,"date":"2023-06-25T10:55:15","date_gmt":"2023-06-25T10:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mauritius\/all-news\/budget-2023-2024-rs-3-billion-earmarked-for-the-national-flood-management-programme"},"modified":"2023-06-25T11:53:34","modified_gmt":"2023-06-25T11:53:34","slug":"budget-2023-2024-rs-3-billion-earmarked-for-the-national-flood-management-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mauritius\/all-news\/budget-2023-2024-rs-3-billion-earmarked-for-the-national-flood-management-programme","title":{"rendered":"Budget 2023-2024: Rs 3 billion earmarked for the National Flood Management Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Some Rs 3 billion have been earmarked in the budget 2023-2024 to be invested in the National Flood Management Programme in a bid to pursue efforts to make regions across Mauritius safer.<\/p>\n<p>The Finance Minister observed that 157 drain projects are currently under construction at a cost of Rs 2.8 billion, adding that this year\u2019s earmarked budget will consist of the construction and upgrading of drain projects across the country, focusing on high-risk flood-prone areas.<\/p>\n<p>Creating a modern infrastructure development The Finance Minister further indicated that funds to the tune of Rs 3.4 billion have been earmarked for the extension and upgrading of the road network system over 60kms, and Rs 360 million for the completion of the A1-M1 linking Coromandel and Soreze by end of December 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he announced that provision of Rs 420 million has been made for the completion of Landslide mitigation works at Batelage Souillac, Maconde, and Rivie\u0300re des Cre\u0301oles by December 2023; a bypass at Bois Che\u0301ri by January 2024; flood mitigating measures at Anse Jonche\u0301e by February 2024; upgrading works on the B28 road from Bel Air to Beau Champ by April 2024; construction of flyovers at Wooton, Terre Rouge, Ebe\u0300ne, and St Pierre by August 2024; construction of a bridge at Pont Bruniquel, Baie Du Tombeau by August 2024; and a link road connecting La Vigie, La Brasserie and Beaux Songes by October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>An additional Rs 760 million has been earmarked for new projects, including: Bypasses at Hermitage and Flic-en-Flac; a flyover on the Motorway M1 at La Vigie; five link Roads connecting M1 to M3 at Hillcrest, La Laura to Morcellement VRS L\u2019Avenir, Rivie\u0300re Baptiste to La Laura, Dagotie\u0300re to Alma and Alma to Valetta; upgrading of Holyrood Road at Vacoas; upgrading of the Savanne Road; upgrading of bridges at Rivie\u0300re du Rempart, Bel Ombre, Grand River North West, Sainte Croix and Pont Rouge; Landslide stabilisation works at Chamarel and Baie Du Cap; and slope stabilisation works near the existing bridge at Rivie\u0300re des Anguilles.<\/p>\n<p>A sum of Rs 600 million has also been earmarked for the rehabilitation, maintenance and upgrading of roads across the country, Dr Padayachy said. Community Wellness and Development<\/p>\n<p>The Finance Minister reiterated that Government will continue to invest to improve the quality of life of citizens by providing more community development facilities across the country.<\/p>\n<p>These projects include: The construction of 40 new Mini Soccer Pitches; Upgrading of 11 Mini Soccer Pitches at Camp Yoloff, Stanley, Vacoas, Grand Baie, Dagotie\u0300re, Quartier Militaire, Belle Mare, Trou d\u2019Eau Douce, Lallmatie, Kewal Nagar, Le Morne ;<\/p>\n<p>Upgrading of 34 Football Grounds and construction of two new football grounds; Upgrading of eight Children\u2019s Gardens; Upgrading of 11 Markets; Construction of six new Multi-Purpose Complexes and upgrading of five Multi-Purpose Complexes;<\/p>\n<p>Investing in 12 new Health Tracks; Upgrading of seven Village Halls; Extension of the Municipal Halls at Camp Pierrot and Gorah Issac Plaine Verte; Upgrading of five Cemeteries at Bois Marchand, Fond Du Sac, Plaine Magnien, Phoenix and Camp Fouquereaux;<\/p>\n<p>Construction of six new Petanque Courts and upgrading of four Volleyball Pitches at Cascavelle, Beau Bassin, Re\u0301sidence EDC Pamplemousses and Montagne Ory;<\/p>\n<p>Construction of two new Indoor Gyms at Nehru Nagar and Bon Accueil; Working on a Masterplan for Curepipe; and Renovating the Hermitage Traffic Centre and constructing traffic centres at Rose-Hill, Constance, Camp Diable, Moka Eye Hospital, Grand Baie and St-Pierre.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mauritius\">Mauritius<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mauritius.
