Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>It’s the buzz of the week. A dummy postman allegedly tried to deliver a package of drugs to lawyer Akil Bissessur. The latter even filmed the scene where the alleged postman tried to give him the package.<\/p>\n

The least we can say is that the way of doing things was extremely suspicious and that anyone a little informed of the procedures of the post office would have suspected that there was an eel under rock.<\/p>\n

Indeed, according to the procedures in place, a package coming from abroad cannot be delivered directly by a postman. The postman leaves a delivery notice in the recipient’s mailbox, and the latter must go to his post office or to the central post office located in Port Louis to collect his package.<\/p>\n

The parcel is opened by the customs services, often or regularly in the presence of members of the Anti Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU), and this, under the supervision of the recipient, who must pay the taxes required so that the parcel is cleared and returned to him.<\/p>\n

The procedures are the same when a package arrives by a courier service such as DHL or FedEx, these services request the authorization of the recipient in order to proceed with customs clearance before the package is delivered.<\/p>\n

Everything was therefore extremely suspicious with this delivery. Moreover, images of the ‘postman’ then circulated on social networks suggesting that the latter could indeed be a real policeman disguised as a fake postman.<\/p>\n

The Special Striking Team (SST) then proceeded to arrest Akil Bissessur, his brother and his companion following a search of the residence of the latter. Their lawyers had to wait several hours before being informed of the arrest of their clients.<\/p>\n

Moreover Me Rama Valayden made a Facebook Live denouncing the methods of the SST and the fact that Akil Bissessur would have become a target of the SST because he would have declared having heard the ASP Jagai repeat: \u201cYes Mrs. Yes madam. . . \u201d during a telephone conversation.<\/p>\n
