Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>An Art Exhibition showcasing the best artworks of School Certificate (SC) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) students opened, this morning, in the presence of the Vice-Prime Minister (VPM), Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookhun-Luchoomun, at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) in Moka.<\/p>\n

The Director of the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES), Mrs D. S. Thanacoody Soborun, was present. Students excelling at A Level and O Level in the subject Arts and Design, were also rewarded on this occasion.<\/p>\n

The Art Exhibition, organised by the MES, will be open to the public as from 19 June 2023 till 24 June 2023 from 09 00 hrs to 15 30 hrs at the MGI. In her address, VPM Dookhun underlined that Arts and Design has become a popular subject among students adding that the pass rate of the subject for SC examinations is 99%.<\/p>\n

The subject, she observed, stimulates aesthetic awareness, personal independence and creativity. It is often challenging for educators to tap into the right talents and aptitudes of students which requires perseverance, patience and hard work, she added.<\/p>\n

Speaking of technology as a huge enabler in the lives of students, she urged that all prized artworks be digitalised and uploaded on online platforms.<\/p>\n

Digital gallery, she remarked, is becoming a popular reality and it is important that we remain connected and open wider portals for creative artworks to serve as a model for discovery and education purposes.<\/p>\n

The VPM commended the students for successfully translating their vision and creativity in their art works while adding that this has helped to enhance their knowledge of cultures and traditions.<\/p>\n

For her part, Mrs Thanacoody Soborun indicated that a total of 67 artworks are being displayed for this exhibition and includes diverse art techniques of 45 students.<\/p>\n

She lauded the quality and standard of works of students adding that they have displayed exemplary artistic skills and talents for the creation of their art works.<\/p>\n

She also spoke of changes brought in the syllabus to address the needs of Mauritian students and further promote their skills in the field of Arts and Design.<\/p>\n
