Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A reception was held, this morning at the State House in Re\u0301duit, in recognition of fifty-one laureates for their distinctive achievement at the Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations in 2022.<\/p>\n

The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun; the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth; the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun; several personalities and families of laureates were present.<\/p>\n

Addressing the laureates, President Roopun commended them for their outstanding accomplishment and highlighted that it is a culmination of years of relentless efforts, dedication, perseverance, hard work and countless hours of studying.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the Republic of Mauritius, has for the first time, also awarded two National scholarships in the field of Economics as a tribute to late Sir Anerood Jugnauth, which he said, provides opportunities for other students to join the league.<\/p>\n

In an era characterised by remarkable technological advancements which are opening doors to limitless possibilities, he emphasised that it is crucial to develop qualities that will differentiate and allow them to thrive in this rapidly evolving world.<\/p>\n

Fields like sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, big data, cyber security, artificial intelligence, blue economy and space exploration will provide countless opportunities to the youth in the future, stated the President.<\/p>\n

Mauritius, he stressed, has a vision for the future which embraces innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth, and investing in our youth is key to the economic progress of the country.<\/p>\n

As for the Prime Minister, he urged the young laureates to become ambassadors of the country while they are abroad and encouraged them return after their studies as there are new promising sectors for trade. He called upon them to become the driving force for the country to reach new heights of success with their fresh perspectives and ideas.<\/p>\n

He reiterated that young people have the ability to make the country flourish and explore the possibilities in emerging technologies while highlighting that Government is keen to unlock the huge potential of the blue economy, sustain growth in a modern technological environment and take a lead in the ICT sector.<\/p>\n

More and more girls, he mentioned, will be encouraged to opt for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Government, stated Mr Jugnauth, has brought several reforms such as free transportation and free education to make the society more inclusive and to provide the best environment to empower young Mauritians so that they achieve the highest potential and have fulfilling jobs.<\/p>\n

He thus encouraged present and future learners to continue to strive hard and to take full advantage of these facilities. As for the laureates, he extended his appreciation to their parents and educators who have played a crucial role in their educational journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are called upon to shine as responsible citizens and do actions that will have a great impact on social inclusion and economic development\u201d, stated the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

Vice Prime Minister Dookun-Luchoomun, for her part, lauded the determination and perseverance of the laureates who had to adapt their learning process due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The pandemic, she added, has triggered the advent of learning online for students and educators resorted to digital means to ensure that learners do not suffer from setbacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important for you to build in agility and flexibility in your way of doing things and develop resilience in the face of upcoming challenges\u201d, she remarked.<\/p>\n

Government, she underlined, strongly believes in investing in education as a fundamental human right and is putting in necessary efforts to make education more accessible to all. To this end, she indicated that a new landmark will be set next year with the implementation of free pre-primary education.<\/p>\n
