Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, met, at his office in Port Louis, yesterday, the High Commissioner-designate of Uganda to Mauritius, Col (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye.<\/p>\n

In a statement following the meeting, the Ugandan High Commissioner affirmed that discussions focused on developing cooperation between the two countries with the necessity of facilitating talks from Government to Government, business to business, and people to people.<\/p>\n

On that score, he spoke of his commitment to enhance communication between the Mauritian and Ugandan sides. While underlining that trade was important between the two countries, Col (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye put forward the possible introduction of a mechanism, such as a joint permanent commission through respective Ministries, to enable Mauritians and Ugandans to work together.<\/p>\n

Better connectivity between countries from East Africa and those in the Indian Ocean was also deemed a key element in boosting businesses by the High Commissioner.<\/p>\n

He was of the view that Mauritius and Uganda should leverage their membership in the African Union, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the African Continental Free Trade Area, to collaborate further.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many potential areas of cooperation which if acted upon would contribute to businesses flourishing for Uganda and Mauritius,\u201d said the High Commissioner.<\/p>\n
