Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Some 235 persons received their certificate, today, at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Moka, for having successfully completed the training programmes under the National Training and Reskilling Scheme (NTRS).<\/p>\n

The Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Mr Soodesh Satkam Callichurn; the Chairperson of the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) Board, Mr Harrykrishna Vydelingum; the Acting Director of the MITD, Mr Sayadaly Maudarbocus; and other personalities were present.<\/p>\n

The training programmes included the National Certificate Level 3 in Care for Elderly and Disabled; Automotive Mechanics and Electronics System; Beauty Care; Draughtsmanship; Garment Making; Fast Food Preparation and Operator Services; and Welding Techniques.<\/p>\n

In his address, the Minister congratulated the participants on the successful completion of their course. He indicated that Government came forward with the NTRS with the objective of training unemployed persons and facilitating their access to employment.<\/p>\n

Underlying the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labour market, he remarked that it led to closure of companies and job losses. \u201cThe Ministry,\u201d he pointed out, \u201cintroduced several training programmes to reintegrate the unemployed in the job market.
\nIn a bid to further facilitate access to employment, he indicated that Government, in Budget 2023-2024, provided Rs 15,000 monthly over a period of two years for newly employed women or those who had been unemployed for at least a year under the Prime a\u0300 L\u2019Emploi Scheme.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother measure is the requirement for all companies employing more than 250 employees to provide necessary facilities for workplace-based childcare,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Minister stressed the importance for employers to valorise human capital and to provide appropriate salary, benefits and good conditions of work for an employee to feel secured and valued.<\/p>\n

He, moreover, added that the job market was evolving whereby technical and vocational training was gaining importance and was very well remunerated. It is therefore important to form individuals in these fields to meet the demand of the labour market while addressing skilled labour shortage.<\/p>\n

He encouraged the population to avail of the scheme and other Governmental measures. \u201cThe NTRS programme is free of cost and the participants will also benefit from a monthly stipend,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n

As for Mr Vydelingum, he said that the NTRS programme, launched in 2020, was designed to train the unemployed with the required skills and aptitudes so that they could easily find a job to address shortage of skilled labour in specific areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe MITD,\u201d he underlined, \u201cwill continue to innovate its training programmes to respond to current job demands in line with the sustainable goals.<\/p>\n

\u201d For his part, Mr Maudarbocus lauded the courage and determination of the participants for undertaking and completing the award programmes. He stressed the need for soft skills and technical competencies which were prerequisite to be eligible for job employment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe programmes of the MITD,\u201d he underlined, \u201cwill help the individuals to develop their soft skills, their personalities, and abilities to take up a job and become self-reliant.\u201d<\/p>\n
