Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>High Officials from the Ministry of Health and Wellness effected a site visit at the ENT Hospital in Vacoas, yesterday, in view of the resuming of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist care there in about a month\u2019s time.<\/p>\n

The Director General Health Services, Dr Bhooshaun Ori; the Regional Health Director of Victoria Hospital, Dr Dhanraz Gopal; the Medical Superintendent of the ENT Hospital, Dr Soobaraj Nayroo Sok Appadu; and other representatives of the Ministry of Health and Wellness visited the premises of the ENT Hospital to take stock of the situation and assess its level of preparedness.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the Director General Health Services explained that since there had been an overall decline in COVID-19 admissions for some time, with no new patient admitted over the last two months, the ENT Hospital would reopen its normal services to the public soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs for new COVID-19 patients, they will henceforth be hospitalised, if need be, in dedicated isolated wards in the five Regional Hospitals across the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Recalling that ENT services were decentralised to other health centres during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Ori informed that services such a speech therapy, audiology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and orthodontics, among others, would be available at the ENT Hospital again as ENT specialists reoccupied the premises in Vacoas.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the Director General Health Services announced that a Super Speciality Pediatric Department, to be manned by well-trained paediatric surgeons, is being set up at the ENT Hospital with the provision of beds for Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit comprehensive services as well as paediatric surgery care to children.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ENT Hospital has been equipped with modern medical machines and houses four state-of-the-art operating theatres, and with COVID-19 patients being directed towards Regional Hospitals, the facilities at the ENT Hospital will therefore service young patients aged less than 16 years old in need of critical care,\u201d stated Dr Ori.<\/p>\n
