Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, called upon all Mauritians to maintain a healthy lifestyle by engaging in daily fitness and sports activities and adopting healthy eating habits, so that the Nation becomes a leading example of a health-conscious population.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister was speaking this morning, as he participated along with the World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative in Mauritius, Dr Anne Ancia and other Members of Parliament in a March organised by the Ministry of Health and Wellness in collaboration with the WHO to mark the latter\u2019s 75th anniversary.<\/p>\n

Various representatives of different public bodies, students and Non-Governmental Organisations, participated in the March that started from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Moka to proceed to the St Pierre Market.<\/p>\n

In a statement, PM Jugnauth underlined that the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the WHO is a landmark event for the organization which plays a major role in the promotion and protection of health around the world.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister underlined the significant support that the WHO provided during the COVID-19 pandemic to Mauritius and expressed gratitude to the organisation for its long existing collaboration with the country, which he deemed crucial for a Small Island Developing State like Mauritius.<\/p>\n

The symbolic celebration of WHO\u2019s anniversary through the organisation of the March, is in line with the theme \u2018Health for All\u2019, as Government seeks to demonstrate the importance of physical activity, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the health sector in Mauritius, Mr Jugnauth highlighted that the Government considers catering for the best health services for the population as its top priority, and is investing massively for the setting up new medical health centres equipped with state-of-the-art technologies while renovating existing ones.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, in the context of the decentralisation of health services, the Prime Minister encouraged the population to visit Mediclinics and community health centres for small health issues, to avoid overstraining services in hospitals.<\/p>\n

On that score, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth underpinned the importance of maintaining a good health, reminding that it is one\u2019s most precious life asset and urged everyone to take the necessary steps to reduce the risks of suffering from Non-Communicable-Diseases (NCD).<\/p>\n

As for the National Campaign to sensitise the population on the importance of practicing regular sports and fitness activities, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction as regards the change in lifestyle and decrease in NCD prevalence as noted in the Ministry\u2019s latest NCD Survey.<\/p>\n

Besides, Prime Minister Jugnauth urged everyone to avail of the various sports infrastructure being provided across the country for the regular practice of physical activities.<\/p>\n
