Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Gender Unit of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare hosted, today at the United Docks in Port Louis, the second National Steering Committee on Gender Mainstreaming with Supervising Officers from line Ministries. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Kalpana Devi Koonjoo Shah.<\/p>\n

In a statement following the meeting, Minister Koonjoo-Shah recalled that the aim of the Committee is to promote dialogue among stakeholders of the public sector and ensure collective actions for the implementation of the National Gender Policy (NGP) \u202a2022-2030.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NGP for the next 10 years, launched last year by Prime Minister Jugnauth in the context of the International Women\u2019s Day, aims to serve as an effective tool for Ministries and other institutions to review policies and promote gender equality,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s meeting, the Minister remarked, is to establish a progress report following last year’s meeting so as to review what the different ministries have been working on over the past year and how they are developing their own policy and action plans as regards the NGP.<\/p>\n

On this note, Minister Koonjoo-Shah stated that it is the responsibility of each Ministry and concerned departments to guide the development of sectoral and institutional policies as regards gender equality.<\/p>\n

She further indicated that the purpose of the Committee is to offer a platform to consult, dialogue and set the gender agenda in various Ministries. All Ministries are getting the required assistance they need from my Ministry in order to devise these action plans as well as secure funding for gender mainstreaming projects, she underpinned.<\/p>\n

The fight for women’s emancipation and gender equality should be applied in all places of work so that women and girls are given the same due recognition and rights as men at their workplace, Mrs Koonjoo-Shah said.<\/p>\n
