Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The recently appointed Ambassador of France to Mauritius, Mr Fre\u0301de\u0301ric Bontems, paid a courtesy call, yesterday, on the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, at the MITD House in Phoenix.<\/p>\n

The French Ambassador was accompanied by the Advisor of the organisation Coope\u0301ration et d\u2019Action Culturelle, Mrs Muriel Piquet-Viaux, and the Attache\u0301 de Coope\u0301ration Educative at the French Embassy and the Institut Franc\u0327ais de Maurice, Mr Patrick Parrot.<\/p>\n

Following the cordial meeting with Vice-Prime Minister Dookun-Luchoomun, Mr Bontems highlighted, in a statement, the significance of strengthening the existing bilateral ties between the French Embassy and the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology.<\/p>\n

The discussions, he indicated, focused on working in close collaboration with the Ministry on diverse educational projects, including the training of French educators, research and development as well as inter-university programmes and exchanges.<\/p>\n

\u201cRs 5 million will soon be allocated to the Government to kickstart the training of French educators, in partnership with the Mauritius Institute of Education and the Universite\u0301 des Mascareignes,\u201d announced Mr Bontems.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the French Ambassador stated that he has put forward a few proposals to the Vice-Prime Minister with regard to curriculum design, the incorporation of technology in teaching and learning, and the introduction of dual degree programmes.<\/p>\n

He further shared that a health-related project at tertiary level is being finalised with the support of Mauritius, Re\u0301union Island, and the University of Bordeaux in France.<\/p>\n

Two research projects, he further said, are being jointly undertaken and financed by the French Embassy and the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology.<\/p>\n

The French Ambassador declared that an insightful symposium, on the theme \u2018L\u2019Horizon par dela\u0300 des Frontie\u0300res\u2019, will be organised at the Institut Franc\u0327ais de Maurice, at the start of November, to promote youth dialogue on the future of Africa, more specifically on the ways Small Island Developing States can overcome the physical barrier to benefit from global opportunities.<\/p>\n
