Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Citizen Advice Bureau (CAB), in collaboration with the Citizen Support Unit, organised, yesterday, a psychological debriefing session with CAB Coordinators, at the Citadelle Mall in Port Louis.<\/p>\n

The objective of this session was to provide emotional support, reduce the risk of psychological distress, and promote resilience among CAB social workers in order to enhance their performance as regards service delivery.<\/p>\n

The meeting was conducted by the Clinical Psychologist of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Mr Bilaal Sookia, and covered conditions such as depression, bipolar disorders, anxiety, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), among others.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion, the CAB Coordinator at the National Development Unit, Mr Girty Eleonore highlighted that the aim of the meeting was to address emotional fatigue and psychological distress faced daily by social workers. \u201cIt will also help in accompanying people who are dealing with such real-life emergencies,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

In addition, Mr Eleonore indicated that as professionals, they dealt with different types of problems daily, making it essential to figure out how to overcome these accumulated stresses. \u201cWe also have a set of ethics that outline how to deal with these situations and how to balance our professional and family lives,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with this vision in mind that the CAB approached the Ministry of Health and Wellness in order to obtain the necessary support and assistance to empower their team,\u201d the Coordinator pointed out.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Mr Eleonore underlined that the authority firmly believed that if their team members were in good health, they would be able to deliver the services they were called for, adding that the responsibility rested on them to ensure that their staff received the support needed to perform their duties properly.<\/p>\n

The CAB Coordinator thereby emphasised the importance of identifying the types of psychological distress and emotional fatigue that might exist, so that social workers were aware of when help had to be sought.<\/p>\n
