Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>An award of certificate ceremony was held, yesterday, at the Ecole Ho\u0302telie\u0300re Sir Gae\u0308tan Duval in Ebe\u0300ne for 11 participants who completed the Energy Auditing Training Programme held from 02 to 06 October 2023.<\/p>\n

The programme was conducted by the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) in collaboration with the Institute of Energy Professionals Africa (IEPA) and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) from South Africa.<\/p>\n

The participants were from local industries namely: New Maurifoods Limited; Compagnie Mauricienne de Textile Lte\u0301e; ECOASIS; MOROIL; FAERUN Ocean Indien; Construction and Material Handling Company Limited; Vivo Energy Mauritius Limited; the University of Mauritius; Manser Saxon Contracting Limited and; Ferney Spinning Mills.<\/p>\n

The Chairperson of the MITD Board, Mr Harrykrishna Vydelingum; the Acting Director of the MITD, Mr Sayadaly Maudarbocus; the Executive Director of the IEPA and EEA, Mrs Yolanda De Lange; and other personalities were present on the occasion.<\/p>\n

Mr Vydelingum, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Mr Soodesh Satcam Callichurn, congratulated the participants for taking the initiative to follow this course and successfully completing it. In the same vein, he urged them to continue their pursuit of knowledge and excellence in the field of energy auditing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need your expertise to address the challenges of energy conservation and sustainability as each energy audit you conduct, every energy-saving recommendation you make, and each step you take towards reducing energy consumption makes a meaningful impact on our planet,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Chairperson indicated that the Government firmly intends to reduce the country\u2019s dependency on imported fossil fuels in electricity generation by setting out an ambitious target of 40% renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2025 and 60% by 2030.<\/p>\n

It is in this context that Government, in collaboration with l\u2019Agence Franc\u0327aise de Development, the European Union, and the private sectors are working out energy efficiency audits and solutions for large energy consumers in Mauritius, Mr Vydelingum added. Mauritius, he stressed, ambitions to emerge as a regional leader in the development and testing of innovative renewable energy technologies.<\/p>\n

To this effect, the Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency, in collaboration with the Central Electricity Board launched the National Scheme for Emerging and Innovative Renewable Energy Technologies, which allows the on-grid testing of renewable energy technologies.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the Chairperson joined the Minister in reiterating the need to collaborate with private sectors to ensure environmental sustainability for the population. This, he stated, will pave the way to create a sustainable and green environment for our future generations.<\/p>\n

He also added that the MITD is focusing on tailor-made training that holds immense potential to reshape our workforce and industries in this era marked by rapid technological advancements and evolving market dynamics.<\/p>\n

\u201cCustomising training to meet the specific needs of different sectors has emerged as a compelling solution, representing a bridge between off-the-job training and real-world industry demands,\u201d Mr Vydelingum said.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Acting Director of the MITD underscored that the objective of this training programme is to impart skills to carry out energy audits in buildings and recommend measures to reduce the consumption of energy.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the importance of energy auditing in a world faced with climate change challenges as it will help to scrutinise and optimise energy usage in our buildings, industries, and everyday lives.<\/p>\n
