Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Mrs Maria Simonne Rouge, born on 14 October 1923, celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday 14 October 2023, at the Village Hall in Rivie\u0300re des Anguilles. An official ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity to honour the new centenarian.<\/p>\n

Mrs Rouge received, from the authorities, a cheque amounting to Rs 26,203; a bouquet; a centenarian medal; a certificate; a kitchen cabinet; a gift from the Senior Citizens Council; and a cheque to the tune of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund.<\/p>\n

Mrs Rouge was born to a mechanic, Mr Joseph Emile Moothoosamy, and his spouse, Mrs Marie Ines Charmante, who was a housewife. The centenarian attended school up to Standard V and has never worked.<\/p>\n

She had six sisters and four brothers, out of which only Mrs Rouge and one sister are still alive. She was civilly and religiously married to Mr Jean Stephen Rouge on 16 February 1957.<\/p>\n

Her husband worked as a factory worker. The couple had only one child and presently, Mrs Rouge has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs Rouge is non-vegetarian and her favourite food is fish curry. She attributes her long life to her unconditional faith in God. The centenarian enjoys good health, and is ambulant but suffers from poor eye vision.<\/p>\n
