Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science, and Technology, Mrs. Leela Devi Dookhun-Luchoomun, graced the graduation ceremony of Dora Kindergarten, this morning, at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre in Bell Village.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by the Manager of Dora Kindergarten, Mrs. Malini Poonoosamy-Sungeelee, preschool teachers, students and parents. The purpose of this ceremony was to celebrate the achievements of seven young students who have successfully completed their preschool education and are now ready to transition to primary school.<\/p>\n

A cultural show was organised to mark this occasion and showcase the budding talents of Dora Kindergarten. In her address, the Vice-Prime Minister lauded the remarkable efforts of both the young children and the teachers at the school.<\/p>\n

She expressed her appreciation and shared the vision of her Ministry, which is committed to nurturing our young talents and empowering them to be confident individuals who can readily display their skills and abilities.<\/p>\n

She emphasised that preschool and nursery are where a child’s awakening begins, marking the initial stages of their development. Mrs. Dookhun-Luchoomun stressed the significant responsibility of teachers, which includes fostering children\u2019s curiosity and keeping them engaged.<\/p>\n

This is at the core of education, she added. She further noted that kindergarten lays the foundation for a child’s future, ensuring the proper development in the years to come.<\/p>\n

Speaking about equality in education, the Minister recalled Government’s initiative to make preschool education free as from January 2024, providing an equal platform for all children.<\/p>\n

She stated that around 625 out of approximately 700 preschools are already receiving Government aid. Government will cover teachers\u2019 salaries and align them with those of the public sector, she added.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Government plans to appoint a manager in each school, and when the student population exceeds 100, an assistant manager will be designated.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Prime Minister underlined Government’s commitment to creating schools that offer comprehensive facilities, ensuring that children receive a quality education from a young age. She also highlighted the plans for training so as to allow teachers to to enhance their skills and competencies.<\/p>\n
