Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focusing on reinforcing the commitment of the Ministry of National Infrastructure and Community Development through its Mechanical Engineering Division, in providing technical assistance to the Cargo Handling Corporation Ltd (CHCL), was signed, this morning, at Moorgate House in Port Louis.<\/p>\n

The signatories were the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Geeanesswar Bundhooa and the Officer-in-Charge of the CHCL, Mr Sanjaye Paddia. The technical cadre of the Ministry and the CHCL were also present at the signature ceremony.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Mr Bundhooa underscored that the Mechanical Engineering Division comprises of well-trained and experienced specialists who offer their technical knowledge, skills and support to Ministries, parastatal and other statutory bodies in regard to the procurement and maintenance of specialised equipment as well as the evaluation practices.<\/p>\n

The CHCL, he affirmed, makes utmost use of a variety of specialised equipment in its operations. Therefore, the deployment of experienced officers to assist the CHCL on an ad hoc basis is at the core of the MoU, Mr Bundhooa emphasised.<\/p>\n

This, he added, will consolidate the existing relationship between the Ministry and the CHCL. On his part, Mr Paddia expressed his gratitude to the Ministry for the provision of technical expertise to the CHCL.<\/p>\n

Highlighting that the equipment used in the Port are very specialised, heavy and expensive, he deplored that huge investments are necessitated to operate and procure same.<\/p>\n

According to him, the MoU will aid greatly in terms of investment and in boosting the productivity of the CHCL while also benefitting the country. Both signatories have moreover informed that a modus operandi is being devised to facilitate the provision of the technical assistance.<\/p>\n
