Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The importance of upgrading skills and education in today’s rapidly evolving world, with booming technology and economic changes, was highlighted by the Vice-Prime Minister (VPM), Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun.<\/p>\n

She was speaking, today at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute Auditorium in Moka, during an official graduation ceremony organised by the Open University of Mauritius for some 246 graduates having successfully completed their programme of studies.<\/p>\n

The Director General and founder of the Open University of Mauritius, Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon; the Chairperson of the Open University of Mauritius, Dr Oomandra Nath Nath Varma; and other personalities were also present at the graduation ceremony.<\/p>\n

In her address, VPM Dookun-Luchoomun underlined that around 1,500 more students will graduate in the month of November through six separate ceremonies. This, she empahsised, is a clear indication of the priority placed on education in Mauritius.<\/p>\n

She underscored the significance of higher education and praised the Open University of Mauritius for its unique and flexible approach in catering for the needs of its students.<\/p>\n

Moreover, she remarked, a significant proportion of the university’s students are already employed, which a testament to the institution’s ability to facilitate a balance between career and education pursuits.<\/p>\n

The VPM congratulated all the graduates for their remarkable achievements, and emphasised that their success was not a solitary endeavour but a result of the commitment of their families, friends, and the dedicated staff of the Open University of Mauritius.<\/p>\n

She also portrayed the young graduates as torchbearers and architects of the nation’s future, driven by innovation and technology. In addition, she appealed to the young graduates to seize every opportunity to upskill, adapt, and evolve.<\/p>\n

She further encouraged the students to embrace the timeless mantra of “Never stop learning,” which characterises continuous education as a catalyst for personal and professional fulfilment.<\/p>\n

Dr Sukon, for his part, expressed pride in witnessing the journey of the university, from its inception with the laying of the first brick to its transformation into an institution with the highest enrolment rate.<\/p>\n

He extended his best wishes to the students before stressing that their hours of hard work are bearing fruit today. He also commended the VPM and the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology for their unwavering support since the university’s inception.<\/p>\n
