Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The medical unit at the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity will be revamped so as to provide better health services to the elderly and persons with disabilities, stated the Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, yesterday, at the opening of a half-day training programme targeting around 70 medical practitioners, held at the Municipality of Port Louis.<\/p>\n

Minister Jeewa-Daureeawoo spoke of the key role of medical practitioners in providing medical and paramedical services to the elderly and persons with disabilities adding that they are also engaged in preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis meeting is a first step towards the vision of the Ministry to re-organise the medical unit,\u201d she said, while indicating that Government is doing all in its capacity to protect the health of the population.<\/p>\n

As regards the training programme, she pointed out that the aim is to better equip medical practitioners with necessary knowledge and skills. It will also familiarise medical practitioners with new guidelines and norms in accordance to the World Health Organisation (WHO) for enhanced provision of health services, added the Minister.<\/p>\n

She moreover urged the medical practitioners to adopt a social approach in delivering their duties for enhanced care and attention towards the elderly and the disabled. It is noted that around 300 medical practitioners will benefit from the training programme.<\/p>\n
