Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Dr Marie Christiane Dorine Chukowry, reaffirmed, during a press point, this evening in Ebe\u0300ne, that the supply of petroleum products to Mauritius has not been hindered and, that since the contract agreement between the State Trading Corporation, and Mercantile and Maritime Investment Private Ltd, a total of nine shipments have been delivered.<\/p>\n

She also recalled that the last shipment arrived in Port Louis on 05 January 2024, and the next one is expected to be handed over on 25 January 2024. The Minister, further, highlighted that the supply of White Oils is as per the terms and conditions of the agreement binding the two parties.<\/p>\n

Dr Chukowry also cautioned the population as regards the prices of onions which are regulated by the Consumer Protection (Control of Price of Taxable and Non-taxable Goods) Regulations 1998, and sold at a maximum price of Rs 25 per pound.<\/p>\n

She deplored that during inspections of trade premises, Officers of her Ministry have observed that some traders are charging higher prices compared to the affixed ones and are not displaying price labels.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn one week, some 30 contraventions were issued to these traders, and we will continue to conduct surprise checks in outlets for the protection of our consumers,\u201d the Minister reiterated.<\/p>\n

Dr Chukowry, moreover, urged the population to report any case of abuse through the following: Hotline for Consumer Affairs Unit – 185 and Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection- 460 2500.<\/p>\n
