Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>South Africa says Israel\u2019s killing of starving Palestinians as they gathered around a humanitarian aid convoy in northern Gaza breached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) provisional order that Israel cease committing genocide in the coastal enclave.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Africa condemns the massacre of 112 Palestinians and the injury of hundreds more as they sought life-saving aid,\u201d South Africa\u2019s Department of International Relations and Cooperation says in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis latest atrocity is another breach of international law and in breach of the binding provisional orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
\n\u201cAn immediate and unconditional call for a ceasefire is now a moral and life-saving necessity,\u201d the statement added. In January, the ICJ ordered Israel to take all measures within its power to prevent its troops from committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Israel has killed over 30,000 Palestinians, the majority women and children, while destroying huge swathes of the enclave to make it uninhabitable since 7 October. Israel has submitted a report to the ICJ to report its progress, which Pretoria was preparing a response to.<\/p>\n

Since the ICJ ruling was issued, Israel has allowed less aid to enter Gaza rather than more, leaving hundreds of thousands in danger of starvation, particularly in northern Gaza.<\/p>\n

On 26 February, Amnesty International stated that Israel has \u201cbeen blocking and impeding the passage of sufficient aid into the Gaza Strip, in particular to the north, which is virtually inaccessible, in a clear show of contempt for the ICJ ruling and in flagrant violation of its obligation to prevent genocide.
\nThe Brazilian government says that Thursday\u2019s massacre near the aid convoy shows that Israel\u2019s military action in Gaza has no \u201cethical or legal limits\u201d and also called for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cHumanity is failing the civilians of Gaza. And it\u2019s time to prevent further massacres,\u201d Brazil\u2019s foreign ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n
