Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The mother of Alexei Navalny, Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s main opponent who died in an Arctic prison last week, said Thursday officials are pressuring her into a \u201csecret\u201d burial for her son.<\/p>\n

Lyudmila Navalnaya said she had been able to see the body in the morgue in Salekhard, the nearest town to the remote prison, after several days of being barred from the morgue.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday evening they secretly took me to the morgue where they showed me Alexei,\u201d she said in a video released on social media by Navalny\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

But she said of the burial: \u201cThey want it to be done secretly without a chance to say goodbye. \u201d \u201cThey are blackmailing me, they put conditions for where, when and how Alexei should be buried.<\/p>\n

This is illegal,\u201d she said. \u201cThey want to take me to the edge of a cemetery to a fresh grave and say: Here is where your son lies. I am against that. \u201cI want that for those of you for whom Alexei is dear, for everyone for whom his death became a personal tragedy, to have the possibility to say goodbye to him.<\/p>\n

\u201d She said she recorded the video because investigators were \u201cthreatening\u201d her.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking me in the eye, they said that if I do not agree to a secret funeral they\u2019ll do something with my son\u2019s body.<\/p>\n

. I ask for my son\u2019s body to be given to me immediately,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
