Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Twenty-two days after a motorcycle accident in Sainte-Croix, 22-year-old Wayne Lebon succumbed to his injuries in an intensive care unit at the Dr A. G.<\/p>\n

Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, where he was placed on artificial respiration. The young painter was seriously injured when his motorcycle was hit head-on by another two-wheeler on the evening of Monday April 22.<\/p>\n

That day, he had run a red light to cross Route Nicolay, Sainte-Croix coming from Rue Ducray. Images of the accident were captured by Safe City cameras.<\/p>\n

It was at 5 a. m. on Tuesday May 14 that Wayne Lebon, a resident of rue Mamzelle, Sainte-Croix, breathed his last. The young man\u2019s body was subsequently transferred to the Dr Jeetoo Hospital morgue for an autopsy.<\/p>\n

Dr Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the cause of death to respiratory failure. The news of Wayne Lebon\u2019s death sent shockwaves through his neighborhood.<\/p>\n

It was around 8.20pm on Monday April 22 when two motorcycles collided at the junction of Rue Ducray and Rue Nicolay, Sainte Croix. The two motorcyclists, aged 18 and 22 respectively, were seriously injured.<\/p>\n

The motorcycle driven by Wayne Lebon suddenly emerged on the Nicolay road coming from rue Ducray. It was hit head-on by an 18-year-old motorcyclist from Cite\u0301 Briquetterie, Sainte-Croix, who was travelling on Route Nicolay towards Port-Louis.<\/p>\n

The impact was so violent that both motorcycles were dragged for several meters. Just before the accident, surveillance camera footage showed another motorcyclist riding a rodeo.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old was taken to hospital by police officers from the Abercrombie, St. Croix police station. Wayne Lebon was taken to hospital by the staff of an ambulance from the Service d\u2019Aide Me\u0301dicale d\u2019Urgence.<\/p>\n

Following the accident, around a hundred people gathered at the site. Some of them were hostile and wanted to attack the police officers present. The Divisional Supporting Unit and the Emergency Response Service were called in to assist. When the police arrived, there were no damaged motorcycles on the scene.<\/p>\n
