Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Abdoulaye Harouna\u2019s name has become synonymous with the Basketball Africa League. One of the few players to appear in all five editions of the tournament, the Nigerien forward is now a household name on the continent \u2014 a remarkable journey from relative anonymity just a few years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Africa, before the BAL, I wasn\u2019t known,\u201d Harouna says. \u201cYet I spent most of my career in the United States. Unfortunately, since I didn\u2019t have a national team back home to play AfroBasket or AfroCan, people didn\u2019t know me. But thanks to the BAL, now I\u2019m truly known across Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n

At 33, the former Miami Redhawks player brings veteran leadership, fierce defense, and a reliable scoring touch to ASC Ville de Dakar. His presence is a stabilizing force, according to head coach Libasse Faye.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a player with a lot of experience,\u201d says Faye. \u201cThat\u2019s why we recruited him \u2014 to bring that added experience to the team. We\u2019re aware of what he\u2019s capable of. He can turn the game around at any moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite his decorated career \u2014 packed with individual awards and stat lines to match \u2014 Harouna still hasn\u2019t secured the one thing he wants most: a BAL championship title.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the stats, all the individual awards \u2014 I can say I already have those,\u201d he reflects. \u201cThere\u2019s not much left for me to prove. What I still want to achieve is winning the title, which I haven\u2019t had the chance to do yet. I hope this year will be the one. That\u2019s my motivation. That\u2019s it. And well, it also feels good to stay and play on your own continent.\u201d<\/p>\n

But his team faces steep competition in the Sahara Conference, going up against continental heavyweights like 2022 champions US Monastir and reigning titleholders Petro Luanda.<\/p>\n

For Harouna, though, the dream remains alive \u2014 and so does his drive to finish what he started five seasons ago.<\/p>\n
